Super50 Cup Ends Without a Winner After Double Forfeiture by Finalists

In an unprecedented conclusion to the Super50 Cup one-day tournament in the West Indies, neither Barbados Pride nor Jamaica Scorpions were crowned champions, as both teams chose not to show up for the toss in the rain-affected final held in Tarouba. As a result, the title remained unclaimed, marking a unique and disappointing end to the tournament.

Heavy rains delayed the start of the match, reducing it to a 20-over contest per side. The game was scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM local time on Saturday, but scattered showers caused multiple delays. Cricket West Indies (CWI) officials announced that the latest possible start time was set for 6:17 PM, and both teams were informed that the toss would be conducted at 6:00 PM.

Despite assurances from match referee Reon King and the umpiring team that conditions were safe for play, neither captain presented themselves for the toss. Time elapsed, and both teams failed to take the field before the latest start time, resulting in a double forfeiture of the final and no winner being declared for the 2024 Super50 Cup.

CWI to Review Regulations After Unprecedented Outcome

Cricket West Indies has stated that it will conduct a thorough review of the tournament regulations following this unusual situation. A double forfeiture in a final is unprecedented, and CWI officials are expected to reassess protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Barbados Pride advanced to the final by defeating defending champions Trinidad & Tobago Red Force by a convincing 153-run margin in the semifinals. Jamaica Scorpions earned their spot in the final after overcoming Leeward Islands Hurricanes by 107 runs. However, the much-anticipated final between two of the strongest teams in the competition ended in disappointment for both players and fans.
